Diagnostics is certainly a ‘buzz’ word at the moment, with many garages offering it as a service.
A common misconception is that a diagnostics computer will find a fault and tell the technician what to replace. This is not entirely correct — the computer will give an interpretation of the fault i.e. what the car thinks is wrong with itself. This guides the technician in the right direction and to the general problem area.
